  Despite how he's shown in the first articles you will see, this so called expert is in my opinion a transphobic bigot. In a recent article written by Dr Lefever, he titles his article "Why is the NHS funding 'trendy' conditions like gender disorder?", his main opinion questioning the legitimacy of gender confusion. Dr Lefever goes so far as to say "They almost become a badge of pride.", as if to say that children decide to be born into the wrong gender or decide to become transgender as all their friends are doing it. As a teenager myself with friends very recently openly identifying as transgender, Dr Lefever can be assured it is by no means "fashionable" nor is it a decision to make lightly.
  
  I won't even begin to touch upon the comments Dr Lefever made comparing gender identity issues with the possible misdiagnoses of Asberger Syndrome, nor shall I go into depth about his comments on HIV, but an 'expert' such as Dr Lefever should know that more gender confused children being open and stepping forwards to face their concerns is a good thing.
  
  Perhaps what Dr Lefever seems to have overlooked is the new open mindedness of our generation and our empathetic feeling of obligation to make our peers happy in their own skin, rather than sticking to the opinions of a former generation of baby boomers who still think gay marriage oversteps a line. The increase in gender identity disorder children is a good thing and shows that our society is evolving and finally letting people come forward and show how they feel instead of hiding for decades.
  
  So next time Dr Lefever decides to publish his opinion on a national newspaper, perhaps he should consider talking to an actual real life transgender person on their opinion. Or better yet, have the newspaper publish someone who is qualified to talk about gender identity disorder children, i.e. not an addiction 'specialist'.
